Hello! The Creative Fingers Challenge is back after a brief northern summer break and my inspiration for the new challenge is also my first Christmas card for 2022.
I must admit it takes me a while to get into the swing of making Christmas cards again. I find my mojo needs a little encouragment before my thoughts start flowing easily, and it happens every year. I guess it’s because we are still months out from the big day. To combat this annoying blockage, I’ve found creating something with an older style layout is more successful to start with. It just helps the mood return a little easier.
I decided to use just the Topper sheet from the Beautiful Poinsettia & Roses Christmas Basket kit (cup1070548_846) from CraftsÜprint for my main feature. I printed it out and fussy cut all the elements using all the tips I talk about in this fussy cutting tutorial.
Once everything was cut out and glued in place with lots of double sided foam tape, I turned my attention to the background I wanted to mount it on. I wanted to create a 5″×7″ card so I cut a piece of red cardstock using the Floral & Diamond Tile cover plate die from Pink Fresh Studio and turned it on its side so it covered the entire width of the 5″×7″ card. It was slightly larger when flipped so, after gluing it evenly on the card, I trimmed the excess edges of with my trimmer. Now, no one will ever know the die cut wasn’t meant to fit this sized card base.
I then cut a thin ¾” strip of gold glitter card and glued that immediately above the red panel. This gave me the exact, ⅔ coverage I was after for the card base. All I needed to do after that was add the assembled topper with some Ranger Multi Medium Matte Adhesive that will ensure the topper adheres to the glitter card as well as the other pieces.
I finished off with a holographic peel off sentiment on a sentiment frame mounted on more foam tape for dimension, and, with that, I was finished. Nice and simple!
