Hello! It’s my turn in the Kitty Bee Designs Spotlight and this month, I decided to make something a little different. I’m not usually one to try out a carding trend but this one just looked like a bit of fun. This style of card is known as an impossible card and was much easier to make than looks.

This is by no means my card design and to make this card, I followed the clear simple instructions found on this post by Sam at Mixed Up Craft. I mearly decorated it in my own way.

After I created the card base, I printed the cute Smelling the Flower Kal-Bee Cow Digital Stamp, from the Kitty Bee Designs Etsy Store onto XPress-it Blending Cardstock. I used various alcohol markers to color the image and I die cut the image out, using a unique generic double-stitched rectangular die set. I also die cut a second white rectangle and two larger black rectangles. I used one black rectangle as a matting layer for my Kal-Bee Cow image and I glued the extra black and white rectangles to the back of the upstanding card panel. Adding the extra white panel to the back of the card’s upright piece gives me a place to write a message when I’m ready to use the card.

Then, following Sam’s measurements stated in her video, I set out to cut the card pieces for the rest of the card’s decoration. I decided to continue the cow theme across into the patterned paper, so I printed a 5″×7″ piece of digital paper from an old cow print set by Etsy store, Color Your Way. I trimmed the patterned paper and some plain black cardstock for the matting layers and for the stabilization strip that goes across the front of the card. I glued all these pieces together and glued them into place, using an acid free PVA glue. This glue gives a really strong bond and I thought that was particularly important for this card style.

To decorate the stabilization strip a little more, I used a strip of washi tape, cut to size. I then decided to enhance the flower in the Kal-Bee Cow image by adding a handmade flower to the front of the card. I die cut all the flower petals, using Sue Wilson’s Delicate Daisies Die Set and colored them with Chameleon Pens, blending a darker color into the centre of the upper petal layers. I used more PVA glue to adhere the petals together and, when dry, I shaped each petal by bending them between my thumb and forefinger. I bent the lower petals downwards and the upper petals upward to replicate a dahlia bloom. I added a purple sequin, using Ranger Multi Medium Matte Adhesive, to the centre of the flower and topped that off with an adhesive clear gem, colored yellow with another Chameleon Pen.

I die cut some leaves and colored them with my Chameleon Pens and added them to the stabilization strip before gluing the flower on top. I also colored a silver Peel Off sticker sentiment with my purple Chameleon pen and added it to the space remaining on the stabilization strip.

I really loved how I was able to match the colors of the flower in the Kal-Bee Cow image with the dahlia bloom on the card by using my alcohol pens. It’s really a great, cost effective way to match up all your card elements. Thanks so much for spending time with me today. I look forward to next time…😊
