Hello! For my spotlight post with Kitty Bee Designs this month I’ve chosen to use the super cute Kawaii, Hanging Around Owl.

I started by printing the owl image and a small “punny” sentiment with my laser printer onto XPress-It blending cardstock. I then colored it with my Chameleon Pens and Color Tops. It’s amazing how quick and easy the blending is when it’s done for you in the nib!

I decided to create a scene for the owl so I die cut the colored image out with a large generic cross stitch edge circle die. I then added some grey patches with my alcohol pens to simulate the moon being behind Kawaii.

Next, I set to work on a background panel. I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to slightly smaller than my 5″×7″ card base and blended Black Soot and Hickory Smoke Distress inks to create a night sky. I went over the top of the panel with a little Picket Fence Distress Ink, to lighten the grey a little more and I finished off with a light spray of Tsukineko Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz.

Once dry, I cut stars out of the panel, using a generic die twice on the top portions only. I then added a piece of silver card behind the stars and glued it all to my card base. I trimmed a small piece off the side of the moon and added it to the top corner of my card with some foam tape.

I wanted to create a second feature for the lower portion of my card and decided to use an intricate Altenew Thank You die to create a stack. I cut five die cuts from double sided adhesive backed white cardstock and a final die cut from the same silver cardstock that I had placed behind the stars. I assembled the stack, finishing with the silver die cut ready for placement. I die cut the extra sentiment with a MFT Stitched Fishtail Sentiment Strip die and glued it to the bottom corner of the card. I then glued the thank you stack into place, partially over the fishtail sentiment. I also added Glossy Accents over the Thank You die stack to give it a more finished look.

To finish the card off, I added Glossy Accents to Kawaii’s eyes and beak. I also added a silver peel off border around the edges of the inked panel to help balance the very dark background.

Thanks so much for spending time with me today. I look forward to next time…😊
