Hello! Today sees the start of another Get Creative Challenge and I’ve been so fortunate to be able to make this card using an image from a great new and upcoming designer. Charlie’s Stamps has just some of the best digital images that I have seen in quite some time. She’s just an awesomely talented artist and I hope this industry will show her the support she so richly deserves!
I’ve chosen her signature image, Cute Funny Birthday Cat to work with and I’ve created another card that has the balloons floating high up into the clouds. This time is a little different in that I’ve chosen to use free clip art that has clouds with birds to create my background. I simply added the cloud clip art multiple times onto a blank digital file, layering and resizing each to fill my 5.25″×6.5″ panel. While doing this, I made sure the birds remained prominent on the right side of the panel. I then removed any background on my Cute Funny Birthday Cat image and overlaid it on the clouds. At that point I knew what the title of this post would be about, a cat chasing birds in a very unique and funny way! I saved the file and printed it onto XPress-it blending card and I also printed a small, funny sentiment to add later on.
I colored my Cute Funny Birthday Cat and it’s balloons with my Chameleon Pens, Chameleon Color Tops and Pencils. Once finished, I added lots of white dots to my balloons with a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen. I think adding dots to balloons gives them so much interest and dimension. Once finished, I trimmed down my panel to fit my die cut, hinged, top folding card base.
I had to experiment a little while, working out what to put around the edges of my feature panel. I ended up deciding on a simple black matting layer but didn’t want just “plain” black. Once I cut the black piece of cardstock to size, I added black Nuvo Embellishment Mousse around the edge to give it some shine. Then, after it was dry, I glued it and my feature panel into place. Finally, to finish off, I die cut the sentiment with a small stitched cloud die. I added a little sky blue Memento dew drops dye ink to the cloud with a Tim Holtz blending brush and added it to the top of the card with some double-sided foam tape.
I just love making these balloon cards by placing the balloons high in the clouds. It just gives that little bit of comical effect to the whole card. As cardmakers, I don’t think we make enough comical cards! I hope you stop by Charlie’s Stamps Etsy Store to see all the wonderful work this young lady does! Thanks so much for spending time with me today. I look forward to next time…😊
