Hello! Today, I’m very excited about the start of the latest A Perfect Time To Craft Challenge because today is the day I am taking over as Design Team Leader. I’ve been really up in the clouds since I found this out! I’ve been lucky enough to take over from Michelle and I can only hope I can fill her rather large shoes in the position.
A Perfect Time To Craft Challenge is an Open Challenge. That means any craft project can be entered and with the added “always anything goes” theme, the entry options are truly unlimited. I’ve also been able to secure some great new additions to the design team and I can’t wait to introduce them next month.
As they say, “a new broom sweeps clean” and with me being new team leader, there’s a few changes to the Challenge Blog. Firstly, we have a whole new look, with new award certificates and badges. I hope these pretty awards will encourage even more to get creative and enter!
Secondly, and most importantly, is the changes to the rules. It is now even easier to enter, with more entry options available to crafters. Instead of only being able to enter if you have a blog, you can now also enter directly by linking to your Facebook page. Finally, a blog is no longer required to enter a challenge! You can find the new rules over on the challenge blog.
Thirdly, this challenge will now be permanently linked to it’s sister Facebook group, Cardmaking Tutorials, Support and Inspiration, where we will post any updates about the challenge blog. You will even be able to access the challenge blog directly from the Facebook group. Joining this group has never been so advantageous and I can’t wait to share this whole new journey with you!
To make my card, I decided to do a little digital manipulation and creation to create a single layer that could be hand colored after it was printed. I started by creating a digital background for the You’re Flying High image on a new file, sized to 5.25″×6.5″. I found some free png clip art cloud and sky images and layered them to create a unique sky line for my backdrop. I have saved multiple links to where I find my free png images in the Facebook Group’s reference albums for everyone to access, so it’s easy to find where to source your own copies of these clouds.
Next, I removed all the background from the You’re Flying High image and overlaid it onto my cloudy sky. I adjusted it’s size and position and saved the whole design as a jpeg file. I printed it onto XPress-it blending card, ready to color with my Chameleon Pens and both Chameleon and Prismacolor pencils. Once the coloring was finished, I added some white dots on the balloon with a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen.
I trimmed the card panel down to size and glued it directly onto a die cut, hinged, top folding card base. I didn’t want to add too much more to overembellish this pretty image. I decided to add simple peel off border stickers around the outer edge and a peel off sticker sentiment, adding it to a die cut cloud. Once I had added the cloud to the card front with double-sided adhesive tape, I thought it needed more definition against the white section of the background. To help define the edges of the die cut, I added more peel off border sticker to the edge, following the shape of the die as I added the sticker. The great thing about some of the finer peel off sticker designs is they can be moulded to fit a curve without needing to cut them down. I was able to go around the entire cloud with a single strip of the sticker. With that final addition, my card was complete.
I really hope you get the opportunity to join in with A Perfect Time To Craft Challenge this month. It would be great to see your work and, don’t forget, you don’t even need a blog to enter! Thanks so much for spending time with me today. I look forward to next time…😊
